Why it’s Cancer Conscious
Turmeric: One of nature’s most potent anti-inflammatory spices, known for its active compound curcumin, which has been studied for its potential to inhibit cancer cell growth.
Cilantro: Offers detoxifying benefits, particularly in helping the body eliminate heavy metals.
Avocado: Rich in healthy fats that reduce inflammation and support heart health.
Cassava Flour Tortillas: Naturally gluten-free and made from resistant starch, cassava supports gut health and helps maintain stable blood sugar levels, which is key for reducing inflammation and supporting immune health.
The Glycemic Load
Total GL = Sum of the individual GLs:
Cassava Flour Tortillas (8 small): Approx. 32 GL (4 GL per tortilla)
Tofu (14 oz): 2 GL
Avocado (1 whole): 1 GL

What’s Essential & What Can Be Swapped
Essential
Taco Shells: Cassava flour is the best option since it contains prebiotics and is low glycemic. Corn tortillas are a solid second option but have a slightly higher glycemic index.
Plant Protein: Animal products are frequently linked to an increased cancer risk, so I prefer to stay on the safe side with plant-based proteins. Tofu is my favourite for its hormone-balancing properties (despite common myths) and ease of preparation.
Swaps
Tofu: Substitute with mashed chickpeas, beans, or lentils for other plant-based options.
Taco Shells: Lettuce wraps are a great alternative! Butter lettuce works well for a low-carb option, though it may not be as filling.
Cilantro Lime Dressing: If you’re short on time opt for salsa or a simple drizzle of lime juice—though the dressing truly makes the tacos.
Additional Boost Toppings
Shredded Carrot: Helps remove excess estrogen from the body. (Article linked here)
Sauerkraut: Fermented and excellent for supporting the gut microbiome.
Hemp Seeds: Add protein and omega fatty acids.
Sprouts: broccoli sprouts are particularly powerful for cancer prevention. (Article linked here)
